More Pro-Rocket Servers ! E-Mail updates !

One update a week ? How dare I ? Well... it's that damn real-life. Let me take this update opportunity to mention a few things I've been notified of via e-mail :

Pro-Ctf server at : 24.3.52.30
courtesy of Clan Ronin, thanks to jinzonigen@home.com for the heads-up.

Pro-Lithium setup help needed !
Idoru over at Telefragged would appreciate some info on anyone setting up pro-lithium servers. If you can give some input, please drop him a line.
He's got a pro-lithium server running over at :
205.140.147.7:27911with some custom maps, check it out.

Dr Who TC toying with pro-rocket.
Supreme Being over at the Dr Who TC informs me that they might be including pro-rocket support (and the Retro-Rocket ;). Cool indeed. I can't think of a better way to battle Daleks.

Pro-Rocket Servers !

Brutality(Q2) - running pro-rocket - 207.49.14.14:27910
Terrafusion - running pro-lithium (i think:) - 205.140.147.7:27911

Lithium Server ops ! For clients to see and hear the rocket-candy (new sounds and .md2's), please run the game from a /pro-lithium directory.

Retro-Rocket, by popular demand !

It had to happen sooner or later I suppose ; )
Check out the
Retro-Rocket page for details and downloads, and then check into a server running pro-rocket ! (if you can find one ;)

Pro-Lithium configuration courtesy of WhiteFang

The extremely popular and ultra-configurable Lithium II mod can enable the pro-rocket standards with one .cfg file. Only one variable is not currently supported in Lithium II v1.02 which is the "rocket_knockback". WhiteFang informs me that v1.03 will support "rocket_kickback" and include the procket.cfg file.

Check out pro-lithium for details and downloads.

Thanks Whitefang !

Pro-Rocket server at Terrafusion.

Word from Idoru: Terrafusion is running a pro-rocket server. Perhaps my Gamespy installation is fubared, but it didn't come up on my list.
The address is : 205.140.147.7:27913

Also from Terrafusion :

Headshot updates his sexy site : Headshot's Tiny Deathmatch Map Depot with an awesome write-up. He also contributed this button for your linking pleasures :

(There are banners and buttons in the works, but they won't be ready for a while.)

LINUX Pro-CTF available. (source and .so files)
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Thanks to Blammo, a Linux version of pro-ctf is available for download. As I've received some e-mails asking for it, there should be a few happy souls out there.

Imagine my delight to find this email in the mailbox :

since some of the .c and .h files contain windows ucky formating, you
can't just unpack the source and compile for linux. So I took 1.02 ctf
source and copied only the core files over and cleaned them up. So, here's
a present for you..

pro-ctf-source.tar.gz (includes the .so and linux makefile) - 289k
pro-ctf-linux.tar.gz (the .so only, like the dll for windows) - 134k

You might put this up on your site so more people can download them.

Blammo

And what a present! Both the source and .so archives are available from the Pro-CTF page.

I've just uploaded the files, it may take a while for all the mirrors to get them. If you get a "file not found error", give it an hour or so and try again.

Custom Gamespy tabs available, pro-rocket servers
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

A bit premature, since I can only find 1 pro-rocket server at : 24.3.6.16:27910.
There is also a pro-ctf Linux server running at : quake2.owt.com

I got a few requests for server listings, this should do the trick :

Pro-Rocket Feedback
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The feedback has been incredible, forgive me if there is a reply lag time ! I'm considering putting up a "message board" of sorts. So far, the e-mails I've received have almost all been incredibly well written. Even the "negative" responses have had superb presented arguments.

Pro-Rocket announced on PlanetQuake !
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

MAN those PQ guys move fast ;)

Today you may have seen this image advertising pro-rocket on PlanetQuake :

I just gotta point out that the Rocket Launcher weapon .mdl has NOT been altered in any of the pro-rocket mods, but the picture is cool !

Hmmmm.... it's an idea though....

Settling in ! Pro-Eraser available for download.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Just settling in to our new home on Planet Quake, 'tis very cool to be here.
Thanks again to Dweomer, Joost, and Bastard.

Pro-Eraser is online to provide you with hours of manic gibbage.
Ryan Feltrin graciously published his Eraser-Bot source code, and Pro-Eraser is a straight modification that adds Pro-Rocket support.

If there are any server operators who are trying out pro-rocket mods, please download and install them again. I've added new directory pathnames to assist in creating a gamespy tab. (that is, if anyone is running them ;)

Pro-Rocket is moving to PlanetQuake. Pro-Eraser coming up !
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Big thanks to PlanetQuake for hosting Pro-Rocket, the move should be complete before the weekend.

To celebrate, I'll be uploading a pro-rocket enabled Eraser Bot once the site has been transferred. (with source 'o course).

Keep those emails coming ! I never knew there were so many frustrated deathmatchers out there :)

Quake2 updates to version 3.15 ! Pro-Rocket server ip !
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

A few days ago id released version 3.15 of the Quake2 client.
All mods (including pro-rocket) are compatible with the 3.15 servers.

I must say, the air control is the best thing to happen to Q2 in a long time.
If you haven't played Q2 multiplayer in a while then download the new Q2 client

Q2 Client 3.15 Full upgrade. -or- Q2 Client 3.14 to 31.5 Upgrade

and try connecting to 207.49.14.14 :

Thanks to Darren for letting me know about his server, which is running the pro-rocket basic deathmatch .dll.
(Pro-rocket is server side only, clients need not download anything)

Pro-Rocket Feedback..
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

About 5 days ago this page was mentioned on several esteemed sites, among them Blues, PlanetQuake, and Qdevels. Special thanks to SumFuka who gave a nice write-up even though he fiercely disagrees with the pro-rocket concept.

And now on to the feedback I've recieved so far : I must say I'm surprised on several levels. First off, the majority of e-mails I recieve are manically positive. Thanks guys, it's good to see I'm not totally alone ! Also, even the replies that disagreed with the manifesto presented well thought out arguments, and fanatical flaming was almost non-existant.

At least a dozen people have asked me for the IP of a pro-rocket server.

Server admins, if you're testing pro-rocket,
please drop me a line and let me know the ip address.

Pro-CTF and PRO-Basic mods/source available for download.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Welcome to the newly opened Pro-Rocket page.
Pro-Rocket is a proposed weapons and physics tweak
that is easily incorporated into any mod.

The goal is provide the small percentage of disillusioned deathmatchers
with a new lease on Quake2.

While suggesting a change to the physics and weapon
balance can almost be seen as sacrilegious, I hope
that the
Pro-Rocket Manifesto helps to explain
the reasoning behind this endeavor. (Originally appearing on
http://www.asiacomp.com )

Two pro-enabled mods have been uploaded. (with source)

The Pro-Basic mod is the "out of the zip" Quake2 gamex86.dll
with pro-rocket support.

Pro-CTF is a quick hack on Zoid's phenomenally popular Capture the Flag mod,
if you're a CTF fan you might want to check this out.
